Last mile surgery support- EKAM Foundation

Supriya Rangrao Jadhav is from Nanded. Her father is a farm labourer and her mother is a housewife.

A year ago, she began experiencing stomach pain. Her parents took her to a nearby hospital. Following a series of tests, she was diagnosed with Acute Appendicitis Her doctor recommended an Appendectomy, with a total cost estimate of Rs.20200/-.

Her father had already lost his earnings due to multiple hospital visits. Financial constraints made it impossible for Supriya’s' family, and they had only Rs. 10000/- for treatment her parents were worried about how to raise the remaining amount. Recognizing the dire economic situation, the social worker at Sane Guruji Hospital, Nanded, reached out to Ekam Foundation Mumbai for assistance.

Ekam Foundation responded promptly, extending financial aid of Rs. 10,200/- through the ICICI Securities CSR funds. On July 25th, 2023, Dr. Ashok Beldode successfully performed the Appendectomy, requiring Supriya's hospitalization for seven days. The timely and crucial support from ICICI Securities through Ekam Foundation Mumbai has played a pivotal role in Supriya's journey to recovery.

Sanitation Unit- Swades Foundation

A family of paddy farmers with combined annual income of Rs.80,000, the Jamdhade household would never be able to afford a toilet of their own.

The meagre income supports a family of five - three adults and two children.

Earlier we had to wake up at the break of dawn and go to the fields to relieve ourselves. Monsoons were particularly stressful because we wouldn't be able to walk too far. We would be forced to go to neighbouring fields and that would sometimes lead to fights,” says Pandhari who is most relieved for her aging mother-in-law and children.

It is of course very good in terms of hygiene and health, but I am also very happy that we won't have to go through the embarrassment of sitting in the fields, scared that someone will walk by. With my mother- in-laws' advancing age it was getting very difficult for her to walk the distance to relieve herself each time. We are very grateful for this help that has transformed our everyday life,” she adds

Drinking Water Scheme- Swades Foundation

The tribal community in Gavtewadi has always struggled with access to water. Until a few years ago, they accessed spring water on a hill top, making it a challenging trek for the women to undertake every single day.

Later the government installed a stand post bringing some relief, but leakages in pipeline and low water tables in the summer months meant that water reduced to a trickle during some months.

During this time, a nearby well became the primary source of water. Heeding to the community's complaints, government finally reinstalled the pipeline, facilitating regular water flow in the stand post, but the trek to and from it was still a challenge.

President of the Village Development Committee, Patil said, “Water has been a very big issue in our village for many years. There are so many instances of women having fallen down during their water collection trips and spraining their leg. A tap in the house is no less than a dream come true for so many of us. It also saves a lot of time energy, enabling the women to take up work outside the house and contribute to the household income. We are very grateful to Swades Foundation and ICICI Securities for this beautiful service.”
